Alain Bovis

Graduate Engineer from Ecole polytechnique and ENSTA ParisTech, Alain Bovis got a PHD from University Pierre & Marie Curie in Paris in 1980. He currently is Senior Vice-President, Science and Technology of DCNS Group and Executive Director of DCNS Research. He is also a founding director of the Institut de Recherche Technologique Jules Verne.

During his industrial career, Alain Bovis worked in hydrodynamic research, in ship design, naval propulsion systems engineering and international cooperation at different management levels. He was Chief Executive Officer of successively Armaris, a joint company of Thales and DCNS and SIREHNA, a R&D company acquired by DCNS in 2008.

Aside his industrial career as a naval architect, Alain Bovis has an academic track record of 32 years of teaching Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Naval Hydrodynamics and Naval Architecture. He was Assistant Professor in Ecole polytechnique, in charge of the course of Aero-Hydrodynamics in the Major “Numerical Methods in Engineering” from 1983 to 1997. He has been associate Professor of Naval Hydrodynamics within the Master of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at ENSTA ParisTech since 1990. Since 2004, he chairs the final scientific exam jury at the Naval Academy in Brest. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of Ecole Centrale de Nantes.

He has supervised several academic research projects since 1983. He is author and co-author of several papers on cavitation, propeller theory and submarine architecture.
